Actor Stephen Collins has become the subject of controversy after an audiotape of him allegedly confessing to sexually abusing three underage girls surfaced last week.

The first alleged victim of the "7th Heaven" star has now reportedly come forward in Los Angeles, claiming that Collins exposed himself to her in the early 1980s, according to the website Business 2 Community.

"The victim, who was 13 years old at the time of the incident, reported the event that occurred in the summer of 1983," stated Lt. Steve Katz.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on Wednesday that an investigation regarding the Stephen Collins case was opened on October 9. Officials are reportedly currently investigating charges of exposure and possible child molestation.

The LAPD reportedly stated that it began an investigation of Collins back in 2012 after a woman contacted police to say he had molested her in New York four decades earlier, and that she thought he may have molested one of his relatives in California, according to the LA Times.

Although investigators repeatedly reached out to the relative, she never responded, stated LAPD Capt. Fabian Lizarraga.

"We can't force her to talk to us," added Lizarraga.

The NYPD also reportedly had an ongoing investigation regarding the Stephen Collins case. The investigation began with a complaint in 2012 involving an incident alleged to have occurred in 1972.

The complaint said that Collins forced a then 14-year-old girl to commit a lewd act inside his Manhattan apartment, police reportedly stated.

Amidst the sexual abuse allegations, Stephen Collins is in the middle of a divorce from his estranged wife Faye Grant.

"I believe that Stephen used his celebrity status to engender the trust of the families of the children he molested. I further believe that there have been other victims, but he has thus far only confessed to those three girls," Faye Grant wrote, according to divorce documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
