Penelope Cruz husband, Javier Bardem, made headlines quite recently due to the rumors that he will be starring in the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" flick as a villain.

The rumors broke out only a couple of days after his amazingly beautiful wife was named the Sexiest Woman Alive for 2014 by Esquire magazine.

It has been previously rumored that Christoph Waltz from "Horrible Bosses 2" was the one to play the role of a villainous sea captain in the blockbuster. However, if the latest batch of rumors is true, then it looks like Javier Bardem has stolen the limelight.

The villain role will be going against Jack Sparrow, who, in turn, is played by Johnny Depp. Fans are shipping Bardem for the role because they find his look fitting for a villainous seafarer in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales."

Additionally, the movie's producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, reportedly personally chose Penelope Cruz husband for the role, according to The Wrap. If this is true, then it looks like the position has been filled, if Javier Bardem decides to take it.

The villain role is actually a ghost captain who blames Jack Sparrow for his brother's death. To avenge his dead sibling, he looks for a certain supernatural object that he most likely believes can help him take his revenge on the notorious pirate.

If Bardem takes on the role in this internationally famous pirate-centered franchise, he will be starring alongside Ian McShane and Stephen Graham. Plus, Geoffrey Rush will also be returning to reprise his role as Barbossa. Orlando Bloom and Keith Richards is also said to appear with some cameo roles in this fifth installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean."

The movie is going to be helmed by directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning from "Kon-Tiki." It will be shot in Australia starting February of next year and has been scheduled to hit the big screens on July of 2017.
