Skype Qik video calls are now available as of Tuesday, October 14. According to an article by Tech News World, Microsoft merged with Skype to make Qik video calls available to the popular messaging app's users.

Users can make brief Skype Qik video calls. In 14 days or less than 2 weeks, users may discard these video calls conveniently at no cost, as reported by Tech News World.

Skype and Qik are closely associated. However, users don't need to have Skype available on their device to access Skype Qik video calls.

Users can access Skype Qik video calls from Android, iOS and Windows mobile phones. Qik is also accessible from Google Play, the iTunes App Store and the Windows Phone Store.

Users can make 42 second Skype Qik video calls to any cell phone number. A notification about the video call sent will be available to the recipients if they have Skype Qik on their mobile device. In case they don't have Skype Qik in their phones, they will receive SMS notifications notifying them of the video sent. The link that will lead the recipients to download Skype Qik will be included in the SMS messages.

In an interview with Tech News World, Jan Dawson, a chief analyst at Jackdaw Research announced his insights about the availability of Skype Qik video calls in the market:

"The video focus helps it stand out a little against the plethora of other messaging apps out there, but it's also limiting."

"Video simply isn't always a good way to communicate."

"There are so many settings where video doesn't work well for either the sender or recipient, whether for privacy reasons, ambient noise or otherwise."

"Skype and Microsoft would probably have been better served by creating a more fully fledged messaging app."
