"Red 3" release date is confirmed to be set for December 2, 2016.
As per Joblo, Summit Entertainment was already planning for the next installment even before Red 2 was released in theaters on July 19, 2013.
Robert Schwentke directed the first installment, which grossed $90 million in the U.S. and almost $200 million globally.
The Hollywood Reporter said that Jon and Erich Hoeber, who wrote the first two movies, is now writing the story and script for "RED 3."
The story plot of the first installment based on IMBD reads:
"Frank (Bruce Willis) is retired, bored and lonely living off his government pension in a nondescript suburb in an equally nondescript house. The only joy in Frank's life are his calls to the government pension processing center when he gets to talk to his case worker Sarah (Mary-Louis Parker). Sarah is as bored and lonely as Frank and marks her conversations with the unknown Frank and her spy novels as the only things fun in her life. When something in Frank's past forces Frank back into his old line of work and puts an unwitting Sarah in the middle of the intrigue, Frank and Sarah begin a journey into Frank's past and the people he used to work with. Like Frank they are all RED ... Retired Extremely Dangerous."
While the follow-up sequel is all about reuniting of retired CIA agent Frank Moses (played by Bruce Willis), the "Red 3" plot summary is not yet announced as it is still underdevelopment. Bruce Willis will reprise his role as Frank Moses.
