Is it because the original movie is so successful that director Guillermo del Toro is already making plans for the third installment of his Pacific Rims movie? The sequel has not even come out yet, but the director is already looking forward to filming Pacific Rim 3, and even talks about the possible plot that it will show.
In speaking with Collider for his latest movie he has produced, called The Book Of Life, Guillermo del Toro plunged right in and talked about the epic plans he has for the third movie, which is already being prepared for even while they are still filming Pacific Rim 2. In fact, Pacific Rim 2 is being done with Pacific Rim 3 in mind, so expect the second movie to set up all the things that will be happening in the third installment.
The director, who is also the writer and director of Pacific Rim 2, revealed that there will be surprises as to which characters will reprise their roles in the third movie.
"Some of your favorite characters come back, some others don't, because we have decided that we're going to shoot ambitiously and say 'Let's hope we have three movies, so some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping it will ramp up on the third one.'"
It will be recalled that the first Pacific Rim movie, which came out in 2013 starred Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Idris Elba (12 Years A Slave), Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini and Ron Perlman. The movie is set in the future, when planet earth is at war with humungous monsters called Kaijus. The science fiction movie earned glowing reviews, with a grand worldwide box office total of $411 million. The sequel will be released in 2017, and while the director already has great plans for Pacific Rim 3, he did concede that it will take another "4-5 months" to work out the screenplay.
