Jon Jones' next fight challenger Daniel Cormier has lauded his sparring sessions with fellow 205-pound contender Phil Davis. "DC also believes that "Bones'" title "has an expiration date."
Jon Jones next fight, which was originally scheduled for UFC 178 last September 27th was postponed for UFC 182 on January 3rd, afther the champion and current pound-for-pound mixed martial arts king suffered an injury during training.
Albeit being disappointed, "DC" has continued training religiously for the fight. Recently, it was revealed that he was sparring with fellow light heavyweight top contender Phil Davis. "Mr. Wonderful" even relayed his experiences sparring with Cormier in a recent interview with FOX Sports.
"I spent some time up in San Jose working with Daniel Cormier and trained with the fellas up there," Davis said. "Daniel's not super similar as far as his fighting style, but just his height and range is similar to Glover (Teixeira) so he's a good fighter to work with."
Davis, who is fighting at the co-main event of the upcoming UFC 179 fight card this weekend, also predicted the outcome of Jon Jones' next fight.
"DC he's in good shape and he's always improving," he added. "So I imagine DC's going to go and beat up on Jon Jones."
In a recent report by MMA Mania, "DC" also praised the sparring sessions he's had with Davis, adding that it did benefit him in a great way.
"I sparred Phil Davis and I had done really good against some of my teammates that were fighting in other shows," Cormier said. "But the more I got in there with a top-five guy like Phil, I got tired and we only went three rounds. I said 'How in the world am I going to add two more rounds of sparring in five weeks?' So I had some concerns."
Cormier had always been confident since his match-up against Jones was announced months back. This time around, he proclaims that the belt under "Bones'" possession will not last that long.
"I got to believe he can get it done, because I got to believe I can get it done on January 3rd," Cormier added. "Does Jon Jones have an expiration date on his title? "He's got one too."
