It seems like it is not just the NFL that is plagued with domestic violence issues as the NHL is also having issues of their own.
Recently, the organization has indefinitely suspended Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov after the player was arrest on suspicion of domestic violence.
According to Yahoo Sports, Voynov was booked and released at the Redondo Beach jail after his arrest early Monday morning at a Torrance hospital on suspicion of corporal injury to a spouse, Redondo Beach police Lt. Joe Hoffman said. The 24-year-old Russian defenseman posted $50,000 bail.
The Kings already released a statement regarding the matter. It says "These developments are of great concern to our organization. We support the NHL's decision to suspend Slava Voynov indefinitely during this process, and we will continue to take appropriate action as the legal proceedings and the investigation by the NHL take their course."
According to Voynov's attorney, Craig Renetzky, his client has not been charged yet and will be in court in Dec 1. He added "'We're still investigating with the police. It's very early on in the proceedings. We're just asking everybody to be patient, because arrests don't always lead to charges and convictions."
Adding "He's not familiar with our legal system, so he had a lot of questions."
According to Redondo Beach police, they responded to a call coming from a neighbor's report of a woman screaming and crying in Voynov's neighborhood on Sunday night. But during that time, they were not able to find anyone.
But 90 minutes later, Voynov was arrested after a nurse at the Torrance hospital called police to report the alleged victim was being treated for injuries that ''alarmed'' the emergency-room staff.
Voynov began his career with Traktor Chelyabinsk, playing his rookie Russian Superleague season in 2006-07. After a second campaign with Traktor, he was selected 32nd overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
His first and second NHL goals were scored on October 27, 2011 against Kari Lehtonen of the Dallas Stars. On June 11, 2012, Voynov won the Stanley Cup with the Kings in his first NHL season
