This just in! The live action adaptation of the popular 1980s cartoons Jem and The Holograms has finally gotten a date where it will hit cinemas next year. Deadline reports that the confirmed Jem and The Holograms release date is October 23, 2015. Girls of a certain will certainly rejoice at this piece of news, as they will recall being little kids fascinated with the cartoon rock star with her fabulous 80s fashion and celebrity life.
The announcement of the Jem and The Holograms release date comes hot on the heels of several news updates about this live action adaptation of the Hasbro animated TV series. Jon M. Chu (Step Up 2) is set to direct the film, which stars Aubrey Peeples (Nashville) as Jem, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, and Hayley Kiyoko as Jem's band The Holograms. Rio, Jem's love interest will be played by Ryan Guzman (Step Up).
It was also recently reported that two 80s icons will also be starring in mystery roles in the Jem and The Holograms movie. One is Academy Award nominee Juliette Lewis, and the other is the darling of 1980s teen movies Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink).These cast announcements will surely inject that appropriate 80s feel and flavor to this movie, and make audiences really look forward to Jem and The Holograms release date next year.
According to Deadline, the Jem and The Holograms movie will revolve around a "small town girl who is catapulted from underground video sensation into global superstar... she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden."
It will be recalled that the original animated series ran from 1985 to 1988, and it revolved around a young woman named Jerrica Benton -- who transforms into her other identity as Jem, lead singer of the rock band the Holograms with the help of her special earrings.
