"Jane The Virgin" episode 2 brought on a lot more complications than the first episode. If the first offering of this telenovela remake made your head spin, the second episode makes sure to tug at your heartstrings as well.
The hour starts with 15-year-old Jane planning for her Quinceñeras - complete with a to-do list. Everything goes according to plan, except for her mother's rather embarrassing impromptu performance of Kelis' 'Milkshake.'
It was officially the worst party that Jane has been to. That would soon change.
Jane, being the organized, make-a-list-for-everything girl, convinces her family to go on with all of their lives as if the baby was just a slight bump in the road of her future. She even refuses to call it a "baby" and opts to name it "milkshake" for Xiomara's unprecedented performance on the most important party of her teenage life.
Confident that Rafael and his wife Petra will be good parents, she convinces herself that she can live her life normally. Her self-assurance doesn't last though. In true 'Jane The Virgin' fashion, she learns about Rafael's not so clean past. She panics but her fiancé, Michael, talks her into giving Rafael one more chance.
What she doesn't know, however, is that Rafael wants to divorce his wife and Petra is scheming behind his back. Jane also doesn't know that Michael found out about Petra and Roman Zosa's relationship.
She also doesn't know about her father being her favorite telenovela star. Or that her mother only performed 'Milkshake' to steer her attention away from her cheating "superfly" escort on her Quinceñeras.
Michael tells Petra to break her relationship with Zos and she promises that she will.
Only, she doesn't have to because Zos ends up dead, skewered on the fish ice sculpture during the party at Rafael's hotel. Did Petra do it?
Also, Jane and Rafael finally hear the milkshake's heartbeat for the first time. This moment, as well as Rafael's prompt for her to be brave, pushes Jane into accepting the milkshake as an actual baby. She collapses emotionally in her mother and grandmother's arms, crying for the attachment she will eventually feel for the baby.
She decides to sue Rafael's sister - the good doctor who accidentally inseminated her - having no clue that the hotel where she works at would be in danger. Rafael supports her decision.
The first episode of 'Jane The Virgin' set the dramedy tone of the show. Episode two, on the other hand, introduced more complications - emotionally, romantically, and even criminally.
