Luis Suarez opened up about his fear that Barcelona would have second thoughts of hiring him after he was banned for four months because of another biting incident.
Suarez, an Uruguay soccer player, has been signed by Barcelona on an 81 million euros ($103.5 million) after he was sold by Liverpool due to the issue in the World Cup where he bit Giorgio Chiellini when playing against Italy in Brazil.
Suarez will now be making his debut with the team as his 4 month ban is about to end. He will be playing against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
He said "I thought that I had ruined my career. At the start I didn't want to speak to anyone, I hid away behind my family although later I thought about it, I said sorry and I felt relief as a result."
He adds "When the talks began with Barcelona and when (his agent) Pere Guardiola phoned me to say that it was all done I started to cry due to the situation that I was in and for the support that Barcelona were offering me. I had been worried that Barca would decide against it due to all the repercussions from the situation."
Currently, Suarez is hoping Barca coach Luis Enrique will let him play against Real. He said "I don't want to tempt fate by imagining myself playing. It is not my style to tell the trainer to play me in the game. I wouldn't dream of saying to Luis Enrique that I want to play in the Bernabeu. If I don't play then I won't be angry, I want to help my team mates and feel a footballer again."
On other news, rumors have been circulating that Suarez has been packing the pounds after he has not played for a couple of months. But Enrique is negating all talks saying that Suarez is healthy and fit.
He said "We see him training every day, he's a player like any other and what's clear is that he's not fat," Enrique said. "He never has been, despite everything that's been said. He's been in shape for several months so everything is fine. It's difficult to evaluate if he's at 70, 80, 90 or 100 percent but what is sure is he feels much better in training. He's been in a certain dynamic for a while and the fact that he has been able to play for his country has allowed him to rediscover the daily life of a footballer."
