"Into The Forest" actress Ellen Page was banned from filming a lesbian movie in a Catholic School in New York City. The "Juno" star, meanwhile, said in her latest tweet that bigotry makes her sad.
Ellen Page, together with co-star Julianne Moore, was banned from shooting their movie "Freeheld," a civil rights film that focuses on a lesbian couple.
According to Independent UK, "Into The Forest" actress Ellen Page and Julianne Moore were supposed to have a shooting in a New York State Catholic boys' school for a scene.
The report said the movie was set to film at the school as a town hall, a setting where the two were seeking domestic partnership claims for financial reasons. Julianne Moore plays as a terminally ill police detective while the "Inception" actress is her car mechanic partner.
It was also reported that the school initially approved their request to shoot but was later turned down.
"They turned us down because of the subject matter. The school has approved other shoots in the past," film producer Michael Shamberg said.
In his email reply, Michael Shamberg told the principal John Flaherty their defense.
"[The film is] not about gay marriage, nor are the women attempting to get married. It is about recognizing the dignity of a woman who was a brave civil servant.
He added, "I believe the theme of the movie is what Pope Francis recognized just yesterday when he called for the Church to welcome and accept gay people."
The principal reportedly forwarded the email reply to their president Father John Serio, but no return news was reported.
Meanwhile, "Into The Forest" actress Ellen Page took to Twitter to vent her feelings towards the banned shooting in the school, Perez Hilton said in a report.
She said in her Twitter account, "Using religion to justify bigotry makes me sad."
She added, "Sending my support 2 the LGBT students at the school who I hope r able 2 find acceptance."
The release date of the movie next year is yet to be determined.
