Conor McGregor's next fight opponent has been named, as "The Notorious" engages in a Twitter feud with ONE FC welterweight champ Ben Askren right after announcement.
Conor McGregor's next fight will be against kickboxer Denis Siver on a FOX Sports 1 card in January at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. MMA Junkie reported the bout announcement on Thursday.
"Although bout agreements are not yet in place, the promotion plans to keep McGregor active rather than reserve him for a fight with the winner of an upcoming title bout between champ Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes, which is set for Saturday's UFC 179," Steve Marrocco said in his report.
The making of Dennis Siver as the opponent for Conor McGregor's next fight was not so much of a surprise to many, after Siver responded to the Irishman's callouts over Twitter this past week.
"I demand all scared contenders bow before me and kiss each individual toe, in a public setting of my choice, for pardoning from execution. You've 24hrs to come forward and surrender your woman and all your belongings or you'll be hunted down and your head placed in my collection," he wrote on his Twitter account.
"@TheNotoriousMMA Nice suit u #lametrashtalker #OscarMcGregor #GoldDigger #Goblin @danawhite @ufc @lorenzofertitta," Siver in turn, responded.
The announcement of Conor McGregor's next fight had been met by various reactions. Fellow fighter and current ONE FC welterweight champion Ben Askren's response, however, has gotten the most traction.
"Giving @TheNotoriousMMA another easy tune up match against another non wrestler is a really smart move by the UFC!" Askren tweeted.
The always brash, outspoken McGregor, of course did not allow himself to be outdone, and offered a response.
"@Benaskren Hey pube head. I'm the No.1 contender. I could sit and wait. But multi 6 figure cheques feel so nice in my bank," McGregor tweeted back. "You wouldnt know"
