She may have been catapulted to stardom by the Harry Potter movies, but Emma Watson has long since left her days of playing Hermione behind. Right now, Emma Watson movies are such hot property, especially after the young actress has proven her mettle starring in such box office and critical successes such as The Perks of Being A Wallflower.
Now the actress is back in a serious role in the latest Emma Watson movie, Colonia. The movie is about the 1973 coup in Chile which was led by General Pinochet to try to overthrow the regime of Salvador Allende. The film follows the character of Emma Watson named Lena who is trying to find out what happened to her partner Daniel (played by Daniel Bruhl) after he mysteriously disappearing after being abducted by the police, in the bloody upheaval that follows the coup d'etat.
Lena is finally able to find Daniel a cult run by preacher Paul Schafer, who is played by alongside Mikael Nyqvist, who is best known for playing the lead character in the Swedish production of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. In a desperate move to recover her Daniel, Lena joins the cult herself. The first released photo from this new Emma Watson movie shows Mikael and Emma in what looks to be an emotional confrontation.
This new Emma Watson movie is directed by Florian Gallenberger, who directed City Of War: The Story of John Rabe. After this movie, the young actress is expected work for Alejandro Amenabar (The Others, Abre Los Ojos) in a new movie called Regression.
It's obvious that the 24 year old actress is making one big stride in her life after the other. It will be recalled that instead of plunging straight into a movie career after the success of Harry Potter, Emma decide to finish her studies in college, enrolling in New York's Brown University and completing her degree in English Literature. She was then chosen as the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, delivering a compelling speech urging for equal rights for women.
This new Emma Watson movie, Colonia will be released in theaters on October 2015.
