Writer and director James Gunn addressed some 'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2' rumors during Variety's Entertainment and Technology Summit earlier this month. He also talked about his plans for the sequel as well as his excitement in writing the screenplay for it.

"I spent all day on Aug. 1, the day the first movie was released, writing Guardians," he shared. "I was so excited about it and I was finally able to let go of the last one and begin the second one. I always saw this as a universe, not just as one story."

First off, will fans see all five original members in 2017? 'Guardians' fans can remember that Groot was blown to bits in the first movie.

"It's going to be a really surprising open," the director joked. "What happens is all the characters are killed in the first 10 minutes. In really horribly brutal fashion."

Jokes aside, Gunn assured fans that Groot will indeed be back as well as the other four main characters. Gunn kept mum about how the semi-vocal tree will look like in the next film, though.

The villain, Thanos, is also a topic of discussion. Details for side characters are still undisclosed although the helmer did mention something about the antagonist.

"Thanos is not the most important thing in 'Guardians 2,' that's for d**n sure," he pointed out, hinting that Thanos will not be the main issue in the sequel.

Another 'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2' rumor plaguing fans is Peter Quill's mission to find his alien father. Although the sequel will tackle more mysteries and secrets, The Inquistr reports that Gunn has planned to branch out of the main comic book storyline. He confirmed that J'son of Spartax will not be Quill's dad but he didn't say who that will be.

Gunn also revealed that new faces will be added to the Guardians' team.
