Which smartphone is the ideal choice for consumers? We compare the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE and the HTC Desire Eye to see which device is worth the purchase.

In terms of design and display, the HTC Desire Eye can be classified as a beautiful device, being taller than the One M8 and built from plastic, with a two-tone design. It weighs 154 grams, being 9 grams heavier than its rival the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE, but it’s wider, measuring 73.8 mm, compared to 72.5 mm, and it’s 0.4 mm thicker than its opponent, measuring 8.5 mm. The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE also features a perforated plastic casing, but it has a physical button and two capacitive buttons below the screen.

The HTC device has a 5.2 inches display which supports a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels with 424ppi pixel density. The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE brings the same screen resolution, but the pixel density is a bit higher at 432ppi. The display is 5.1inches Super AMOLED.

For the hardware and OS, both smartphones host the fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset which supports a quad core 400 processor. But the HTC Desire Eye has its processor clocked at 2.3GHz, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE is a little bit more powerful, having its processor clocked at 2.5GHz.

The HTC device has one variant of internal storage of 16GB and Samsung device has in addition a 32GB variant, but both smartphones support a microSD card slot for expansion up to 128GB.

Both smartphones come loaded with Android v4.4.2 (KitKat), but the Galaxy S5 LTE already received the 4.4.4 update. However, the devices are using their own UI – HTC comes with Sense UI and Samsung developed TouchWiz UI.

For the battery and camera specs, the HTC Desire Eye houses a 2600mAh battery which allows a talking time of 20 hours on 3G, but is non removable. The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE has a 2800mAh user replaceable battery.

HTC device has a 13MP shooter with dual-LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. The primary camera is also 13MP and has features such as dual-LED flash, HDR, panorama, face detection etc. The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE provides a better back camera of 16MP, but the front camera is only 2.1MP. However, the Samsung device has an advantage over HTC’s Desire Eye; it’s capable of recording Ultra HD 4K videos at 30fps.

The HTC Desire Eye will cost around $675, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE is cheaper, costing $529.
