Halo Created For Blind Dogs To Be Most Helpful For Shelter Pets?

Silvie Bordeaux of Los Angeles kept her promise to help her dog Muffin overcome any disabilities if she survived cancer.

After Muffin survived her cancer scare, she sadly lost her sight, which led Bordeaux to creat Muffin's Halo Guide for Blind Dogs, a device that encircles a dog's head and prevents blind pets from running into walls and furniture, according to The Associated Press.

The Halo that's been created can be of great use to dogs in shelters and can reportedly prevent older or injured dogs from being turned into shelters as well.

"It might help shelter pets more than average pets in some ways because their environment is constantly in flux," stated Dr. Christin Fahrer from Eye Care for Animals in Culver City.

Fahrer continued, "We are the ones who struggle with the concept of our pets being blind. We struggle with what it would be like for us. Our pets don't drive or read, but we use our vision every moment of every day. It's a different world for them."

The Halo for the blind dogs is almost like their "superpowers," according to Bordeaux.

"They can eat and sleep and play and run with it on," stated Bordeaux.

The Halo will also help greatly when the dogs navigate their surroundings.

"If the halo hits the wall first, it will slow them down," stated Fahrer.

The halo seems to work for both the dog that has it on and the owner who is able to see his or her dog become "super confident" again.

"It's like putting an action-hero suit on a little boy," stated Los Angeles dog trainer Bronwyne Mirkovich when describing what it's like putting the device on her dog Max.
