The Black Panther movie release date has been confirmed for November 2017, with Chadwick Boseman playing the lead role.

"Black Panther" was one of the major unveils in a mystery event at Los Angeles yesterday, all thanks to Marvel Studios. Marvel confirmed release dates for titles, with dates scheduled up to 2019. There's also a new batch of Avengers movies scheduled for 2018 and 2019, revolving around the inter-galactic, Infinity War.

Black Panther is a fan favorite in the graphic novels, one of a handful of off-beat characters in the Marvel Universe. Black Panther joins Marvel's "Knights" lineup with the likes of Ghost Rider and The Punisher.

This is the first time Marvel Studios will release a standalone film with an African-American in the lead role. Chadwick Boseman, notable for his performance as Jackie Robinson in "42" will star in the "Black Panther" movie.

The character will also play a crucial part in an upcoming installment of Captain America (Civil War) as introduction to his standalone film.

Boseman was present at the "mystery event" yesterday, along with Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. "I'm blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, and to work with you both, and I look forward to making magic together," he addressed the actors, currently Marvel Studios' Captain America and Iron Man.

The "Black Panther" movie release date is part of Marvel Studios' extensive lineup of superhero films, most unveiled while others yet to be confirmed.

Chadwick Boseman's confirmation for the role is another step-up in Marvel's maturing cinematic universe. Black Panther is considered as the first mainstream black character in American graphic novels.

Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios comments on the character and his backstory: "Black Panther and all of Wakanda is one of the most interesting characters in Marvel history. He's a bit of a prince, he may even become a bit of a king, but it's all about how this isolationist country meets the world. Maybe it goes well, maybe it doesn't." (cnet.com)
