Motorola Droid Turbo review: release date is today, with battery life that really lasts.

The Motorola Droid Turbo specs highlight the device's extended battery life, one which the states will last for up to 48 hours of regular use.

Battery life is the issue of all smartphones, especially the ones sophisticated enough to replace desktops and tablets. The Motorola Droid Turbo doesn't claim it can match the best units out on the market, but it delivers in terms of reliable battery life.

The smartphone can easily serve as a sidearm smartphone for emergencies. Initial reviews of the device are satisfactory at the very least, though the 48-hour battery life claim has yet to be tested.

A Gizmodo review considers the claim, in the same way the Nokia's Asha series when these were released about a year ago.

"Yes, the new Droid Turbo has curb appeal. It has a massive battery, a 2K display and a blazing fast mobile processor, but it's also basically just a beefier Moto X that's locked to Verizon's network. The battery is the biggest difference. And in early tests, it looks like that battery may not deliver."

Today's Motorola Droid Turbo release date locks it to a Verizon subscription for US$200, and the telecom company's VP marketer Jeff Dietel pushes for the battery feature in a pitch.

"You need a phone-and everyone needs a phone-that lasts, and with Droid Turbo you can go 48 hours without having to recharge."

The claim has yet to be verified, though, since Motorola and Verizon just released the smartphone and gadget reviewers only had two days max to test.

"I slipped the Turbo on its charger and filled up to 100 percent overnight. In the morning, off the cord at 8 AM, I've used the smartphone quite a bit, but still well within the realm of normal use. By the time I left work, I was at 35 percent."

Usage for the Motorola Droid Turbo varies, with more reviews in the coming days.
