Samsung Galaxy A5 Specs Upgrades The A3; Mid-Range Features Paired With All-Metal Casing Appeals To Premium Crowd; Reviews Compare Smartphones To More Maneuverable Galaxy Note 4

The Samsung Galaxy A5 specs is comparable to its cousin, the Galaxy A3, a preview on the smartphones' in performance and design.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 specs make it the A3's big brother, with a handful of hardware upgraded to justify the larger display. Both units fall in the category of mid-range smartphones, but Samsung takes a page out of sleek design, opting for metal casing instead of plastic.

The Samsung A5 and A3 are its first entries in the all-metal casing market, apparently geared toward the younger crowd. A sealed-in battery is also a first for the smartphone manufacturer, making the devices practically disposable when the batteries run their course.

CNET reviews both devices, comparing these to the feel of the Galaxy Note 4:

"The square-sided handsets look and feel good when you palm them, similar to the Alpha, if you've personally held it, or like smaller, more maneuverable versions of the Note 4. They're also on the light side and are noticeably slim; in fact, they're the most svelte Galaxy phones yet. Don't look for any real standout textures or design elements to show off the move to metal; these smooth-backed specimens are understated as far as that goes."

With a fixed back plate, the SIM and Micro SD slots are moved to the side of the devices; Samsung will follow up with units that accommodate secondary SIM or storage device.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 specs don't have the premium features of the Galaxy S5, but the all-metal design should appeal to the same market.

"You might think that luxe metal casings like these would house equally high-end specs, but the A-series is actually defined by midrange specs that target a more youthful demographic. Samsung's market studies revealed that this group isn't fussy about top-flights hardware, but is turning toward the metal trend in a serious way."
