"The Amazing Spider-Man 3" was pushed to 2018 to give way to the "Sinister Six" movie; however, some think that the delay in the film was due to low performance of the second installment of Marc Webb's franchise.
Just a few days ago, Marvel broke the biggest news in the Phase 3 of Marvel cinematic universe when it revealed the official title of the sequel to "Captain America: The Winter Soldier".
The third installment will adapt the "Civil War" story arc. Those who are familiar with the plot of this Marvel Comics crossover storyline know the big part of Spider-Man apart from the two Avengers who get separated by their principles namely Iron Man and Captain America.
As of now, it is not yet possible to see the webslinger swinging in "Captain America: Civil War" since the rights is still with Sony Pictures. Now that the movie studio has plan to film "The Amazing Spider-Man 3", perhaps Sony won't return the rights yet to Marvel.
However, Sony and Marvel may have an agreement to let Spider-Man crossover, which we think is a win-win situation to both of them. But then, we don't know how this crossover thing may affect the plans of Sony to "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" and its upcoming anti-hero films such as "Sinister Six" and "Venom".
We also don't know if in case Spider-Man will appear in "Captain America: Civil War", the storyline in the "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" may change as well.
In the Civil War storyline, Iron Man and Captain America become former allies when the two of them have different opinions on the Superhuman Registration Act. Iron Man supports the Act, while Captain America opposes to require each superhuman to reveal his identity and register. Spider-Man is on either side because he prefers working on his own; however, Tony Stark, seeing the potential in him, convinces Peter Parker to join him.
If Spider-Man can't join the Avengers in the Civil War, then Marvel might fill in the missing part in the person of T'Challa or better known as Black Panther, which will be played by Chadwick Boseman.
