Which Samsung device is the better purchase? We compare the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S3 to see which device is ideal choice for consumers.
For the design and display, both Samsung devices have Super AMOLED displays which are capable of rendering a resolution of 720x1280pixels. The difference lies on the screen size and pixel density, meaning that the Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65 inches display with 316ppi, while the Galaxy S3 is fitted with a 4.8 inches screen that supports 306ppi, but it has Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating for scratch protection.
The Galaxy Nexus measures 135.5×67.9×8.9 mm and weighs 135 grams, while the Galaxy S3 measures 136.6×70.6×8.6 mm and it’s 2 grams lighter than its rival.
For the hardware and OS, the Galaxy Nexus has a Cortex A9 processor with two cores, clocked at 1.2GHz. The chipset which supports it is TI OMAP 4460 and the GPU is PowerVR SGX540. As for the Galaxy S3, it has the same Cortex A9 processor, but it has four cores and the clock speed is 1.4GHz. The chipset is Exynos 4412 Quad and the GPU is Mali-400MP4. Both smartphones have 1GB of RAM, while the Galaxy Nexus has only one variant with the capacity of 16GB and it doesn't support expansion. The SIII has three options: 16/32/64 GB, and the first two ones support expansion up to 64GB.
The Galaxy Nexus came with the version Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) version and now it runs on v4.3 (Jelly Bean), just like the Galaxy S3, but this smartphone came with v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and soon it will be upgraded to Android 5.0.
For the battery and camera specs, the Galaxy Nexus has a smaller Li-Ion 1750mAh battery which runs out of juice very fast, especially when users are accessing all kinds of applications or talking on 3G. The Galaxy S3 has a Li-Ion 2100mAh battery which allows over 11 hours and a half of talktime on 3G.
The Galaxy Nexus has a back camera with the resolution of 5MP and has features such as autofocus, LED flash, geo tagging, face detection and touch focus. Compared to other Android devices, this smartphone doesn't offer a clear image, but allows userrs to make video calls with the 1.3MP front camera.
The Galaxy S3 has an 8MP back camera with some additional features such as image stabilization and simultaneous HD video and image recording and the front camera is 1.9MP.
Both smartphones are available on amazon.com as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is worth $30 dollars (used) or $275 (refurbished). The Galaxy S3 16GB is worth $250, and the 32GB $545.
