A new photo of Emma Stone in her Broadway debut has been released, and she is every inch looking like the perfect Sally Bowles. Taking over the role from Michelle Williams, Emma Stone's Cabaret turn is actually a childhood dream come true for the actress. Not many people will be able to say that their childhood ambition was to play an underground club singer slash showgirl, but Emma Stone was enthralled with the character when she first saw it on Broadway 15 years ago. "I've wanted to play Sally Bowles since I was 10, when I saw Natasha Richardson in Cabaret," the Spiderman actress revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine.
"It's unusual for young actresses to get such completeness in a role. Sally is vulnerable, tragic, funny, unlikable, heartbreaking. And then she gets whacked across the face with an epiphany," Emma added further. "I don't think I've ever been so truly obsessed with a character or a story. I can't believe this is actually happening!"
Emma Stone will be essaying the role of Sally starting November 11 and will be playing the role until February 1, 2015. The actress will still be playing opposite Alan Cumming, who is the Emcee. Cumming has already won a Tony award for this role during the 1998 Broadway run of the show.
The Golden Globe nominated actress revealed in a prior interview that she was set to play the role earlier, but had to back out because of scheduling conflicts. She describes the decision as "heartbreaking," when she had to hand over the role to Michelle Williams. Not Emma Stone's Cabaret performance is just days away.
The Roundabout Theater company is producing this revival of the Broadway hit. Sam Mendes (American Beauty) directs, while Rob Marshall (Chicago) co-directs and choreographs the production of Emma Stone's Cabaret. The show will run in New York City's Studio 54.
