The sound of a million hearts breaking followed the confirmation that Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch is engaged. It was understandably a shock to many, when the actor was never even confirmed to be dating anyone! The engagement announcement was spotted in the The Times newspapers, and it read:

"Mr BT. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London."

So now the question on everyone's minds is: who is this lucky lady that has managed to win the heart of one of the most eligible bachelors in Tinseltown? Let's meet Sophie Hunter, who, as expected is every bit as impressive as her superstar fiancee.

For one, we know from research that Sophie Hunter is 36 years old, just two years younger than Benedict Cumberbatch who is 38. She works as a theater director, and helms mostly avant-garde plays and opera productions. And she is apparently really good at what she does. In 2007, Sophie Hunter's work was recognized with the Oxford Samuel Beckett award, for her play The Terrific Electric. The award is given to those who promote "bold, challenging, and innovative" theater.

Aside from being an expert behind the scenes in helming theater productions, the soon to be Mrs. Benedict Cumberbatch is also a film and television actress. In fact, Sophie Turner has starred alongside her husband to be, in Burlesque Fairytales which was released in 2009. And we're willing to bet, more people will be watching that movie now that the engagement between the two has been announced!

And guess what, not only is she a director, and actress, and a writer, she can also belt a tune! Sophie Turner once released an album, in French, no less, called The Isis Project.

Reportedly, the beautiful Sophie also has quite the education from Oxford University, where she graduated with a degree in Modern Languages. She specialized in Italian and French, and took up theater both in New York (Saratoga International Theater Institute), and Paris (Jacques Lecoq school).

And now, Sophie Turner can tuck another feather in her cap, as she has snagged heartthrob Benedict Cumberbatch! We're sure we'll learn more about this beautiful and talented woman as days go by!
