It has been more than two decades since Queen performed with their original frontman, Freddie Mercury after he succumbed to AIDS-related complications in 1991. After restoring old recordings featuring the iconic lead vocals, the band's remaining members decided to offer one of Queen's new songs for charity.
As a treat for fans, guitarist Dr. Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor released the restored version of 'Let Me in Your Heart Again' featuring the legendary singer's vocals.
It was recorded by Mercury in the 80's but was never released. William Orbit, who previously worked with Madonna, Britney Spears and Blur, remixed the song for a fresher sound.
Proceeds of the new song will benefit the Coca-Cola Company and (RED)'s new campaign to battle HIV/AIDS; "Share the Sound of an AIDS-Free-Generation." Artists, such as Wyclef Jean featuring Avicii, OneRepublic and Aloe Blacc also contributed to the cause. One song will reportedly be released every week in November.
"It's been 23 years since the world lost our beloved Freddie Mercury," The Telegraph reported May as saying. "We've made extraordinary progress in the fight against AIDS in that time. But we cannot simply rest on the fact that the treatment is available. We must ensure that it is provided."
With contributing to the cause in mind, both surviving members decided to share Queen's new song "in the hope that Freddie's powerful voice can inspire the world yet again."
The Coca-Cola Company and (Red)'s campaign aims to gather funds which will be given to The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The gathered proceeds will also finance grants to provide HIV prevention, testing, counseling, treatment, as well as care services.
Meanwhile, Queen's new album, 'Queen Forever,' will also feature restored songs that Freddie Mercury recorded before he died. It will also contain a collaboration song with Michael Jackson, titled 'There Must Be More to Life Than This.'
Songs for the new album will reportedly contain outtake songs from their 1983 sessions for 'The Works' album.
The highly anticipated new album will be released on November 10. The band will go on tour in Europe again with Adam Lambert singing for Freddie Mercury, January of next year.
