AC/DC To Move On Without Phil Rudd? Rock Band Announces New Album Release

The drummer for rock band AC/DC, Phil Rudd, has reportedly been accused of trying to arrange two murders and has been charged with threatening to kill and possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, according to USA Today.

Despite the recent charges made against Phil Rudd, AC/DC will continue as a group without him, evident from the recent statement they made.

"We've only become aware of Phil's arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil's absence will not affect the release of our new album Rock or Bust and upcoming tour next year," AC/DC said in a statement on its website, according to the LA Times.

Rudd had reportedly been cut from AC/DC in 1983, but returned in the early 90's and had been expected to go on the group's world tour for its new album, which is set to be released on December 2.

60-year-old Phil Rudd was reportedly taken into custody Thursday morning after a raid on his home in Tauranga, New Zealand's Bay of Plenty Times reported. He was reportedly released on bail after a short appearance in Tauranga District Court where he entered no plea.

Rudd reportedly faces as long as 10 years behind bars if he's convicted of the charges of attempting to murder, according to the Associated Press. The court reportedly hasn't released the names of the alleged intended victims as well as the alleged hitman.

Although the charges against Phil Rudd are unpleasant and disappointing for AC/DC fans, ex-manager Michael Browning told Daily Mail Australia in an interview that the charge was a "bit of a shock, but there you go," which raises speculation that the drummer may have been on the road to destruction prior to the recent accusations.

The alleged hitman reportedly told the Sydney Morning Herald that Rudd had wanted him as a bodyguard after recent threats over agreements with "working girls."

"The amount he spends on company is like someone's yearly wage. He's the Hugh Hefner of Taurange," the man told the newspaper.
