A New York woman is reportedly facing charges of trying to hire a hitman to kill her daughter's ex boyfriend and feed his body to the alligators, stated police and jail officials, according to Reuters.
The plot that 57-year-old Melisa Schonfield had to kill her daughter's former boyfriend was so extreme and almost ridiculous that her daughter commented, telling ABC News that "this only happens on a Lifetime movie."
"My mom is not a monster," added Alexis Schonfield, who has a 2-year-old son with her ex boyfriend Ernesto Negrillo.
To carry out her plans to kill 36-year-old Negrillo, Melisa Schonfield reportedly met with what turned out to be an undercover detective to arrange the hit at a Wal-Mart parking lot in Watertown, ABC News reported. She reportedly offered the undercover cop $11,000 to kill the man and even told the pretend hitman that her husband knew about her plan, according to the NY Daily News.
Police reportedly arrested Schonfield on charges of second-degree conspiracy and second-degree criminal solicitation, Dave Pustizzi, a detective in the Jefferson County sheriff's office, said in a statement.
Negrillo and Alexis reportedly lived in Florida together before they split, which led to their son, who was four months at the time, and Alexis living with her parents in upstate New York. Alexis reportedly claimed that Negrillo was verbally abusive during their relationship, and that her mother may have possibly feared for the family's safety.
"The only thing I can say, because I am a mother, is she was trying to protect my son and she got tired of watching me cry," Alexis told the Huffington Post.
She continued, "I've been an emotional basket case the past two years."
Negrillo told the news outlet that he didn't know the reasons as to why she would want to have him killed.
"It's just f**ked up. I don't know why she would want to kill me. I haven't spoken to her in a long time," stated Negrillo.
He added, "It didn't have to go this way - she didn't have to do what she did. She ruined her reputation and now there's no grandma in the picture for my son. I feel bad."
