Despite the devastating loss on Saturday night, Shogun Rua's next fight may still be happening, as the former UFC light heavyweight champion is still looking to "get through" his latest career ordeal. As it is, it does not look like the PRIDE FC legend would be retiring any time soon.
While there is no news about Shogun Rua's next fight as of this posting, the 32-year old native of Curitiba, Brazil is not looking to hang up his gloves just yet. This remains to be the case despite the numerous calls of his family for him to finally consider retirement.
"It (retirement) never really crossed my mind," Rua said in an October interview with FOX Sports . "Much to the contrary, I was always planning on continuing to fight. If I'm the guy going in there fighting and I'm happy doing it and the UFC is the promotion that hires and promotes my fights and they are happy with having me on the show, then why would I stop fighting? It doesn't make much sense. It never really crossed my mind."
On Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 56, Rua had once again tasted a brutal defeat, this time in the hands of up-and-comer Ovince Saint Preux, held in his home country. Shogun was stopped in the first round by a single left hand, followed up by a barrage of strikes as he hit the ground.
As Shogun Rua's fight remains to be in the conversation, albeit uncertain, the fighter himself is still looking to bounce back from his tenth defeat of his 12-year mixed martial arts career.
"Losing is always bad," Rua said in a report by Sherdog.com. "In this weight class and heavyweight, when a punch lands, you feel it. But I'm gonna get through this loss and talk to my team and think about the future. Defeats always suck."
