Which smartphone is worth the purchase: We pit the LG G3 against the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge to see which is better.
For the design and display, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge has faux leather on its back and a curved display with a metal frame surrounding it. It has home button which hides the fingerprint sensor, plus two capacitive buttons. The LG G3 has its casing made of polycarbonate plastic but which looks like brushed metal that isn't prone to fingerprints. The volume rocker and the power button are both positioned below the rear camera, which seems to be a better solution for most of the users.The Samsung device measures 151.3×82.4×8.3 mm and weighs 174 grams, while the LG device is 25 grams lighter, and measuring 146.3×74.6×8.9 mm.
The Samsung device has a 5.6inches Super AMOLED display that supports a higher resolution of 1600×2560 pixels, which gives a pixel density of 524ppi, while the LG device has 5.5 inches True HD-IPS + LCD, with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and a higher pixel density of 534ppi. Both displays are sharp and it’s hard to notice the differences between them, but after some tests, it seems that the Note Edge offers more accurate colors, because it has a color temperature of 6719 K – close to 6500 K, the normal value, while the LG G3 reaches 7099K. the Note Edge has a brightness of 496 nits, which is better than LG G3’s 455 nits level of brightness.
In terms of hardware and OS, the Samsung Note Edge has a quad core 2.7 GHz Krait 450 processor that runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset along with an Adreno 420 GPU and it’s helped by the 3GB of RAM to increase its performance. The LG G3 comes with a quad core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 Qualcomm MSM8975AC Snapdragon 801 chipset that teams up with an Adreno 330 GPU. It has two variants of RAM capacity: 2GB, which couple with 16GB of internal storage, or 3GB of RAM that couple with 32GB of storage. The Note Edge also offers two variants of internal memories, whose capacities are 32 and 64GB, but likewise the LG device. It allows users to add a microSD card and get up to 128GB. The LG G3 runs on Android v4.4.2 (KitKat), while the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge comes loaded with v4.4.4 (KitKat).
For camera and battery specs, both smartphones are packed with a 300mAh battery, which is user replaceable. The Note Edge last 7 hours, with almost one hour more than LG G3’s battery.
The Samsung device has a 16MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, LED flash, autofocus, 1/2.6″ BSI sensor with F/2.2 aperture, and a 3.7MP camera on the front, which records videos at 1080p@30fps. The LG G3 has a 13MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, phase detection/laser autofocus, optical image stabilization, 1/3.06” BSI sensor and F/2.4 aperture, and a 2.1MP front camera. The Note Edge has some extra shooting modes and allows you to use Dual camera, Virtual tour, Selective focus. The G3 has Auto mode, Panorama, Magic Focus and Dual camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will cost $946 without a contract, or $399 with a two year contract through AT&T. The 32GB variant of the LG G3 can be purchased from Amazon at the price of $558.
