Nicki Minaj shocked the world with her “Anaconda” music video, but the “Super Bass” rapper has returned for more.
Nicki Minaj’s new music video for her track “Only” is already being slammed left and right on Twitter.
The lyric video for “Only” shows the rapper in a “white and red color scheme along with pictures of military equipment, grand monuments and marching troops,” according to the media outlet Stuff.co.nz. The music video was reportedly quickly compared to depictions of the Nazis due to the black uniforms adorned with armbands and flags with a design that can easily remind some of a Swatstika.
“Using Nazi imagery to big yourself up is extremely messed up,” wrote one Twitter user.
Fellow Twitter user Yung Wine Emoji wrote, “@NICKIMINAJ i really do love you but your video for ‘only’ is Really Not Okay. pls do better and take it down or apologize or SOMETHING.”
Another social media user abbey commented, “why did nicki use nazi propaganda in the only video??? why would she wanna be comparing herself to hitler?? @NICKIMINAJ U let us down :(“
Despite the expectations of Nicki Minaj fans for her to address the music video, the possibility of the rapper apologizing for the video may be low. Minaj’s reaction to the backlash that “Anaconda” received for its overtly-sexual nature was focused on the people who didn’t understand the music video, according to the U.K.’s The Independent.
“If a man did the same video with sexy women in it, no one would care. You’re talking about newspeople who don’t even know anything hip-hop culture,” Minaj told V Magazine.
She continued, “They don’t say anything when t they’re watching the Victoria’s Secret show and seeing boobs and thongs all day. Shame on them for commenting on ‘Anaconda’ and not commenting on the rest of the the over sexualized business we’re a part of.”
