Apple iPhone 6 Release Date 'Missed The Boat', Says Steve Wozniak

Steve Wozniak, who founded Apply Inc. along with the late Bill Gates, is critical of Tim Cook's Iphone 6 strategy. Though initial sales of Iphone 6 have been impressive particularly in China, Wozniak says the handset should have been released sooner.

The 'giant' smartphone concept has been favored by consumers after the conventional Nokia-type handset fell in demand. And Apple has a notorious reputation for entering the market late and pounding rivals out of the way.

According to Wozniak, "Apple could have had a much bigger share of the smartphone market if it had a larger-screen iPhone for the past three years," CNNMoney reports.

The Apple Co-founder added, "It could have competed better with Samsung."

While Apple's share of the smartphone was 12% in Q3 according to IDC estimates,

Samsung's 24% market share doubled. And 64-year old Wozniak feels that Apple Inc. was just playing catch-up to big screen phones from HTC and Samsung.

'Tech is like a song. You can get all the details from someone else, but you're not sure you like it until you hear it for yourself,' Daily Mail quoted the co-founder of Apple as saying.

Recently, HTC mocked Apple for starting so late in the big screen market saying in the Daily Mail, 'Happy to congratulate Apple on joining the world of big screens!'

Until the recent launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in September at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts at De Anza College, Cupertino, Apple and the folks on Tim Cooks' team were focusing on screens smaller than the 4.7" and the 5.5" screens.

Critics say that Apple missed out on the popularity of Android phones, despite the profits banked by the iPhone 6.

Wozniak, however, feels that the Apple Watch is a good idea and is a luxury fitness brand.

"It's more distinctive than all the others," Wozniak was quoted as saying by in an online report. "And who knows? It might sell well. There are a lot of wrists out there."
