New "Iron Man 4" rumors have been coming out that Mel Gibson agreed to direct the new sequel. We reported a month ago that Robert Downey Jr. would only return in the fourth sequel if the "Braveheart" actor will direct the film. During an interview with Deadline, the 49-year old actor hinted that he may finally retire his role as Tony Stark.

He said, "But I'm not 42, I'm turning 50...and now I'll have two small kids instead of one grown one, and eight Team Downey projects with people who are imagining I'm not just spending Warner Bros' money out of vanity, but that I'm taking it seriously. It all has become this thing that has to be figured out. It has come to a head, right now, where the points of departure will be."

But when he was asked what he thinks about Mel Gibson directing "Iron Man 4", Robert Downey Jr. got excited about it. The actor said, "Why not?" Then he added, "That movie would be bananas." Marvel fans were thrilled to hear about that, but the question is if the 58-year old actor will agree into doing that.

Mario Lopez of Extra brought up the latest "Iron Man 4" rumors to the Aussie superstar. He asked Mel Gibson if he is open to directing a possible sequel. The star of "Mad Max" replied, "Of course!" He explained, "I'm pretty good at directing."

Gibson added, "I think I got some statues for it. I think I can do it. I think I'm a better director than actor. I hope somebody gives me an argument on that." The filmmaker is best known for his work in "Braveheart" and "The Passion of the Christ".

In fact, he had won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Director for the blockbuster hit "Braveheart". "The Passion of the Christ", on the other hand, faced some controversies but was a financial success. It was the highest grossing non-English-language film of all time.

Do you think the "Iron Man 4" rumors will push through? Marvel needs to have a big budget to get Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr. to sign a contract.
