Which smartphone is the better choice for consumers? We compare Motorola's Moto G against the LG Optimus L9 to see which is worth the purchase.
In terms of design and display, the LG Optimus L9 is an extremely thin and light phone in comparison with the Motorola Moto G with a thickness of just 9.1 mm and weighs under 120 grams. The Motorola Moto G is heavier, weighing 140 grams and it us 11.6 mm thick, which is surprising from a company that once made the Moto Razr, one of the sleekest phones in the market.
Both smartphones come with a 4.5 inch display that uses IPS panel. The difference between the two comes in the screen resolution where the Motorola Moto G has 720p display compared to the 540 x 960 pixels offered on the LG Optimus L9. Further, the Motorola unit has the latest version of the Gorilla glass to protect its display, compared to the older version found on the LG unit. In addition, the Moto G is capable of doubling up as the perfect multimedia companion on several fronts.
For the hardware and memory, the multimedia aspect of the Motorola Moto G is enhanced even further, by the presence of two internal memory options. Users can choose between 8 and 16 GB internal memory when buying the phone.
Meanwhile, the LG Optimus L9 offers only one option at 4 GB however, the LG phone the supports a microSD cards of up to 64 GB, which almost eliminates the need for internal memory. In the event the buyer opts for microSD cards, which are now incredibly cheap, the disappointment of low memory can be overcome.
For battery usage and camera specs, both smartphones have the same battery life because of batteries that can barely be separated in terms of capacity. The Motorola Moto G is equipped with a 2070 mAh battery, while the LG Optimus L9 has a 2150 mAh one. The Motorola smartphone comes with a quad core processor, which is rated at 1.2 GHz, compared with the dual core processor rated at 1 GHz on the LG smartphone.
Although, the LG Optimus L9 offers less than 720p display, it comes with capability of full HD video recording through its five megapixel camera. The Motorola Moto G also has a five megapixel camera, but it can record only 720p videos. The Moto G’s camera is slightly better equipped in terms of features like HDR, panorama, and stereo sound recording. The front facing 1.3 megapixel camera is also a significant upgrade, compared to the VGA camera on the Optimus L9.
The LG Optimus L9 cost $170, while the Motorola Moto G is around to $240.
