Los Angeles Lakers news and rumors reveal a dubious honor dealt to its hall of famer shooting guard Kobe Bryant, who goes down in history books as the NBA player with the most number of misses. Meanwhile, Wayne Ellingon is mourning his father's tragic death.
In the latest Los Angeles Lakers news from ESPN, Kobe Bryant reached 13,418 career missed field goals, passing Boston Celtics legend John Havlicek, during the game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
But Kobe Bryant appeared to be undaunted by the dubious record as he told reporters later after the game, "Well, I'm a shooting guard that's played 19 years. Like I said, 'shooting' guard, 19th year."
He also said that he doesn't really pay close attention to all the statistics.
Coach Byron Scott also came to his star player's defense as he said: "I don't care about that crap, and I'm sure he doesn't either. I don't mean to cut you off, but to me it speaks of his aggressiveness and his longevity."
Talking about John Havlicek, the coach said that, "John was a pretty damn good basketball player back in the day" and all the names on the list are all hall of famers like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Elvin Hayes and Karl Malone.
Meanwhile, in other Los Angeles Lakers news, a Reuters report published on Huffington Post, revealed that Wayne Ellington's father was shot to death in Philadelphia over the weekend.
A statement from the LA Lakers guard said that he, along with his family, is "devastated by the news of my father's murder."
Wayne Sr. was found inside his car with a lone gunshot wound to the head. He later died at the hospital while doctors tried to save him.
The LA Lakers guard was given "an indefinite leave of absence from the team in light of the killing and it was unclear when he would return."
