Warner Bros. seems more decided to push the first-ever "Wonder Woman" film this coming 2017, tapping a female director to direct the female superhero film seems just a coincidence.
"Breaking Bad" director Michelle MacLaren was reported having talks with Warner for her possible directing task for the female superhero standalone film starring Gal Gadot.
MacLaren had successfully brought 11 episodes of "Breaking Bad" in high viewership and received positive reviews. The 13th episode she directed in the Season 5 was hailed as one of the best series by critics and reviewers, with viewership of 5.11 million people.
"Wonder Woman" will be MacLaren's directorial debut for a film in case she would accept the offer from Warner after creating her own name in small screen. Perhaps, it will be her time to finally enter mainstream to add to her directing portfolio apart from her successful jobs on some episodes for TV series, such as "Game of Thrones", "The Walking Dead", "X-Files", and "Breaking Bad".
Tapping MacLaren for the project seems to be a long-time choice based on a statement on Variety, "According to sources, Warner Bros. EVP of Production and Development Greg Silverman has always been a fan of MacLaren's work and had been trying for awhile to find the right project for her."
"Wonder Woman" has long been planned to adapt into movie but, for unknown reasons, it has always been postponed. This time the film starring Gal Gadot has seen more potential to finally hit the big screen.
The female superhero character will first appear in Warner's "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" in May 2016 before the tentative release of her standalone film on June 23, 2017.
Having said that, little details are still known for the "Wonder Woman" movie, but it was said that "The Avengers" producer Joss Whedon is "flirting" to produce the film. However, Charles Roven may have already won the film.
