Which tablet device is the ideal choice for consumers? We compare the Samsung Galaxy Tab S and the Nexus 9 to see which is worth the purchase.
In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S looks like most of the Samsung tablets, but it’s more close to the Galaxy S5 with perforated back, a centered rear camera and gold aluminum bezels. Its dimensions are 247.3×177.3×6.6 mm, which means that the tablet is extremely thin, close to Apple’s iPad Air 2.
The Nexus 9 comes with a soft plastic rear panel with matte effect and brushed aluminum bezels surrounding the display. It measures 228.2×153.7×7. 9mm, and it weighs at 425 grams. On its front panel user will see the dual HTC Boomsound speakers which offer excellent sound quality.
For the hardware and OS, The Nexus 9 is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra K1 64-bit based processor and hosts 2GB of RAM. The configurations for the internal storage are 16 and 32GB and they can’t be expanded. It runs on the upcoming Android 5.0 Lollipop, being the first device to operate on the new OS. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S ispowered by the Exynos 8-core processor clocked at 1.9GHz and has 3GB of RAM and an internal memory of 16GB which supports expansion up to 128GB. The OS is Android 4.4.2 KitKat and will be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop eventually.
For battery and camera specs, both tablets are packed with 8MP rear cameras with LED flash and autofocus, while the secondary cameras are 1.6MP for the Nexus 9, and 2.1MP for the Samsung GalaxyTab S. The Nexus device has a smaller battery of 6,700 mAh which allows up to 9 hours and a half of multimedia usage, while the Samsung unit has a built in memory of 7900 mAh with 11 hours of multimedia usage.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S cost $480, while the 8.4 inches variant is $396. The Nexus 9 will be available starting from the third of November and will cost around $400.
