Anderson Silva news reveals "The Spider" admitting that he thought the back pain he recently suffered would paralyze him. The former long-time middleweight champion, however, is still itching to get back into the cage and fight again.
Currently on the tail end of his rehabilitation from the broken leg injury he suffered against Chris Weidman during their title rematch at UFC 168 in December 2013, Silva suffered another physical ailment during training early this month.
In a previous report by MMA Fighting, Silva was believed to have experienced pain when he was trying to stand up. After being unable to do so, and feeling some numbness on his legs soon after, he was immediately taken to the hospital.
Anderson Silva news reveals that "The Spider" was released a day after, and doctors deemed it as a case of lumbago, a common muscle and bone disorder. His physician Dr. Marcio Tannure already dismissed it and cleared him to compete at UFC 183 on January 31st against Nick Diaz.
"He felt a severe pain because of the contracture," Dr. Tannure explained. "It really hurts a lot, but it won't change anything in terms of training. The issue he had explains the pain but won't get him sidelined or even cancel the bout."
Silva, however, initially had his own apprehensions.
"I couldn't believe when I felt that back pain," he said in a report by MMA Fighting. "I thought I was going to be paralyzed."
Anderson Silva news also reveals that the 39-year old fighter is not looking to back down from his upcoming bout. During the UFC's Monday media day entitled "The time is Now", Silva expressed his excitement for his upcoming bout.
"I'm very excited to be back," Silva said. "I need to be back because this is part of my life, fighting is part of my life. I'm very excited for the fight with Nick because he has had some great fights. I'm training hard for my fight with Nick. "
