Interstellar Movie Ending: Spoilers For Christopher Nolan's Interstellar Twist! Find Out Dr. Mann's Back Story In Comic Book Written By The Director Himself!

One of the things that Christopher Nolan's Interstellar movie was able to keep under wraps from the public was the cameo of this famous actor as one of the integral supporting characters in the movie. Who wasn't surprised when we discovered that Dr. Mann was actually being played by Matt Damon! Now the character isn't on the screen for a long time, and frankly he's pretty unlikeable because of what he tried to do to our lead characters Cooper and Dr. Amelia Brand.

But apparently, he is important enough in the Interstellar movie wiki for director Christopher Nolan himself to do an entire story on him via the comic strip medium. The comic, written by Nolan himself tells us the entire back story of Dr. Mann, and how he came to be the man who was desperate enough to try murder just to be able to go back to planet earth.

The comic appears in this month's issue of Wired magazine, where Nolan collaborated with famed comic book illustrator Sean Gordon. The story is entitled Absolute Zero, and it follows Dr. Mann's journey into the planet that turns out to be uninhabitable. What we see in the comic is that Dr. Mann, from the very beginning was bent on getting the fake data about his planet out to earth in hopes of rescue. He is challenged in every turn by the robot Kipp (named after the astrophysicist Kipp Thorne whose science the movie is based on).

For those who had hoped that Dr. Mann, "the best" among those who were sent for the Lazarus missions, had redeeming qualities before his descent into madness, well, you're in for a disappointment. It seems that from the very beginning, the character was desperate for his planet to be "the one," and that Kipp the robot was the only one who was actually trying to do his duty.
