In Hong Kong Pro-Dem Protest News Today, the Occupy Central student movement in Hong Kong has come to a bump after a Hong Kong court authorized police to clear barricades. While the police were able to clear some areas in Central Hong Kong, protesters who wee not part of the large student movement for democracy broke into the Hong Kong legislature. Six persons were arrested following the break-in. Meanwhile, President Barrack Obama says that the U.S. has not intervened to encourage protesters in Hong Kong Pro-Dem Protest News Today.
However, reports indicate that President Obama made a request to the government of China to lend a ear to the people's voice in Hong Kong.
President Obama, a 'sitting duck president' who is on what could be his last visit to Asia was quoted by Mashable as saying, "On the issue of Hong Kong, which did come up in our conversations, I was unequivocal in saying to President Xi that the United States had no involvement in fostering the protests that took place there."
While Mr. Obama said he listens to the people's opinions, he added, "these issues are ultimately for the people of Hong Kong and people of China to decide," the report said.
Despite criticism over China's human rights record, the U.S. has shown an openness to engage with China. But the President emphasized that freed of expression is important whether it is Paris, Hong Kong, or New York', giving an unofficial 'ok' to the pro-dem protests in one of China's administrative regions.
On a lighter note, Hong Kongers have topped the 2014 GOOD City Index for their 'polite protests', and green Umbrella revolution movement, staying off the grass and using chalk on roads.According to Help Assemble the GOOD City Index, the list aims to identify "cities that are emerging, the ones that are figuring out their growing pains or flourishing under the radar," reports Shanghaiist.com.
