Which smartphones is worth the purchase? We compare the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and the HTC One M8 Eye to see which device is better.

In terms of design and display, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha weighs 115 grams and has a thickness of 6.7 mm, while its chassis is made of textured plastic, but it has an aluminum frame, which makes it prettier than the Galaxy S5, but unlike its sibling, it's not water and dust resistant. The HTC One M8 Eye has the same design as its predecessor, the One M8, having dual speakers on the front panel, a 5 inch display and a big battery, but which can’t be removed.

HTC device display measures 5.1 inches and it’s a Super LCD3 that supports a resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels with a pixel density of 441ppi. The Samsung device features a smaller 4.7 inches HD Super AMOLED with a lower resolution of 720x1280 pixels and 312ppi.

For hardware and OS, the HTC One M8 Eye comes with a powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor which couples with 2GB of RAM and you’ll have 16GB of storage for installing applications, saving photos and other files etc, but users can also ad a microSD card to expand its capacity up to 128GB.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha runs on an Exynos 5 Octa 5430v chipset which hosts a pair of quad core processors: 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 and 1.3GHz Cortex-A7. The RAM capacity is the same, but the internal memory is 32GB and it’s unexpandable.

Both smartphones run on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but a new Sense 6.0 UI brings some unique gesture based controls to make more exciting. Samsung has its own TouchWiz UI, but they haven’t changed much the new version. Users will only notice some new app icons and notification menu icons.

For battery and OS, the HTC One M8 Eye has a much bigger battery of 2660 mAh which lasts more than Samsung Galaxy Alpha’s 1860 mAh battery. The HTC One M8 Eye has a 13MP back camera, while the Samsung Galaxy Alpha has a 12MP back shooter. For video calling, the HTC device provides a 5MP front camera, which is a lot more advanced than Alpha’s 2.1MP front lens.

The HTC One M8 Eye costs $637, while the Samsung Galaxy Alpha price is worth $653.
