Manga creator Masashi Kishimoto has a lot of plans for his "Naruto Shin Jidai Kaimaku Project" or the Naruto's New Era Opening Project. News Hub reported that "The Last: Naruto The Movie" is the first of many works for this project which celebrates the series' 15th anniversary. Not only that, while the Naruto manga series has ended, "Entermix" magazine specified that a new titular ninja's spinoff manga mini-series is set for April 2015 release.

According to Saiyan Island, the sequel will focus on the next generation featuring the children of Naruto, Hinata, Sakura, Sasuke and others. While information about the mini-series are limited it has been reported by Latin Times that Japanese site My Game News Flash noted "the sequel may focus on a new generation of Shinobi as rumors suggest Naruto and Hinata will have two children, a son and a daughter. Hinata and Naruto's son will be named Bolt, or Boruto, a pun on Naruto. Hinata and Naruto's daughter is named "Himawari," which is "sunflower" in Japanese."

Reportedly, the upcoming manga will be significantly shorter than "Naruto" and "Naruto Shippuden." Kishimoto has not discussed the projected number of books or chapters for the new series.

"The Last: Naruto The Movie" that will hit theaters in Japan on December 6, will be followed by a sequel of "Naruto" anime series based on Hinata and Hanabi Hyuga.

According to Anime News Network, Naruto television anime director Hayato Date announces the anime special in an interview for the December issue of Gakken Publishing's Monthly Animedia magazine. The interview noted that fans of the Naruto television anime should watch out for the continuation of the TV series together with a "new development" beginning 2015.

Reportedly, the anime special to be aired on December 4 will focus on Hinata Hyūga's younger sister Hanabi and tell a story about the siblings. The Hyūga sisters' character design for "The Last: Naruto The Movie" where they will also appear is described by the manga creator Masashi Kishimoto: "[Hinata's] reserved nature is unchanged!" while Hanabi is "A lively girl who is the complete opposite to Hinata!"
