Which smartphone is the better buy? We compare the Oneplus One smartphone and the Sony Xperia Z1 to see which device is worth the purchase.

In terms of display, the OnePlus One is equipped with a LTPS LCD display of 5.5inches that supports a resolution of 1080x1920pixels and 401ppi. Its dimensions are152.9×75.9×8.9 mm and it weighs 162 grams.

The Sony Xperia Z1 on the other hand has TFT screen display measuring 5 inches and renders the same resolution, but has a higher pixel density of 441ppi. It is 8 grams heavier than its competitor, and it measures 144x74x8.5 mm.

For the hardware and OS, the OnePlus One is powered by a Quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 CPU, coupled with a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset and Adreno 330 GPU. The Sony Xperia Z1 has a Quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor, a Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset and the same Adreno 330 GPU.

The OnePlus One has two variants of internal memories: 16 and 64GB, which can’t be expanded, while the Sony Xperia Z1 has 16GB of internal storage but its capacity is expandable for up to 64GB.

The OnePlus One runs on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) OS with 3GB of RAM, while the Sony Xperia Z1 is loaded with the Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) OS, but it’s expandable to the 4.4.4 (KitKat) version.

For battery usage and camera specs, both smartphones have non-removable batteries. However, the OnePlus One has a Li-Po 3100mAh battery, while the Xperia Z1 comes with a Li-Ion 3000mAh battery.

The Sony Xperia Z1 has a 20.7MP rear camera which takes professional pictures. It has other features such as 5248х3936pixels, autofocus, HDR, LED flash, panorama and it records videos 1080p@30fps. The camera on the front is 2MP.

The OnePlus One has a 13MP primary camera with 4128x3096pixels, autofocus, HDR, dual-LED flash, panorama etc. and it records videos 2160p@30fps, 2160p(DCI)@24fps, 1080p@60fps and 720p@120fps. In addition, the secondary camera is 5MP.

Other specs include, a tri-microphone with noise cancellation on the Oneplus One, as this feature increases the voice clarity by up to 80%. Also, this smartphone supports NFC, USB and Bluetooth.

The OnePlus One 16GB variant costs over $600, while the Sony Xperia Z1 is at $425
