Which smartphone is better? We compare the Nexus 5 and the Sony Xperia Z2a to see which device is worth the purchase.

In terms of design and display, the Sony Xperia Z2a offers a 5 inches IPS LCD Triluminos display with a resolution of 1080x1920pixels and 441ppi. Sony used the X-Reality to create this display, which is shatterproof, and not to mention that the phone is dust and water resistant. Its dimensions are 137x72x11mm and it weighs 163 grams.

The Nexus 5 has a 4.95 True HD IPS+ display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, with the same screen resolution of 1080x1920pixels, but a higher pixel density of 445ppi. The body is made of matte plastic, its sizes are 137.9×69.2×8.6 mm and it weighs 130 grams.

For the hardware and OS, both smartphones are powered by the same quad core Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.3GHz, and have an Adreno 330 GPU. The Xperia Z2a uses a newer version of Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset – MSM8974AB 801 and has 3GB of RAM, while the Nexus 5 features a MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 system on chip and hosts 2GB of RAM. As for the internal memories, the Sony handset offers a capacity of 16GB, which is expandable up to 128GB, while the Nexus 5 has two fixed internal memories or 16, respectively 32GB.

For battery and camera specs, both smartphones have Li-Po non-removable batteries, but of different capacities: the Xperia Z2a uses a battery with the capacity of 3000mAh, which allows up to 19 hours of talk time on 3G. The Nexus 5 has a weaker battery of 2300mAh, which should provide up to 17 hours of talk time on 3G.

The Sony smartphone's primary camera is at 20.7MP and including on the list of features: 5248х3936pixels, autofocus, LED flash, HDR, 1/2.3” sensor size, panorama, face detection, image stabilization, geo tagging and video recording at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps and720p@120fps, in HDR. The secondary camera isn’t noticeable, as it’s only VGA.

The Nexus 5, on the other hand, has an 8MP rear camera with features such as 3264x2448pixels, LED flash, autofocus, optical image stabilization, dual recording, geo tagging, face detection, HDR, photo sphere. The video recording is at 1080p@30fps with optical stabilization. The front camera is 1.3MP.

The Sony Xperia Z2a is expected to come at $600, while the Nexus 5 16GB variant can be purchased from amazon.com at $388 and 32GB variant costs $443.
