Tamir Rice was reportedly shot and killed by police for allegedly carrying what officials later confirmed was an “airlift” replica toy gun outside of the Cudell Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon, stated Cleveland Division of Police over the weekend.
The child was reportedly moved to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died Sunday around 2:30 a.m. Rice reportedly died of a gunshot wound to the torso with injured to major vessels, intestines and the pelvis, according to the website cleveland.com.
The shooting happened after a man at the park adjacent to the Cudell Recreation Center reportedly called police when he saw “a guy with a gun pointing it at people,” according to NEOMG reports. The caller reportedly twice stated that the gun was “probably fake.”
The officer reportedly ordered Rice to put his hands in the air, but the boy reached for his fake gun. The officer reportedly fired twice.
