"How to Get Away with Murder" cast Viola Davis is trying her hand at producing a new legal series that peeks into the life of a prosecution lawyer.
According to the report of Deadline, Viola Davis has been inspired by her character Annalise Keating in "How to Get Away With Murder" into sharing the lives of strong women attorneys.
She will team up with Debra Martin Chase and Julius Tennon to produce "Conviction" for ABC. The show is "a legal drama inspired by the life of Kym Worthy, the chief prosecutor of Wayne County, MI, known as the toughest woman in Detroit."
Jason Wilborn, whose credits include "Damages," will pen the script while Jeff Melvoin of "Army Wives" will executive produce it.
The Detroit Free Press described Worthy as the first black woman prosecutor in the country and has "earned a reputation as a strong, confident figure on the state and national legal scene."
"In 2008, she was lauded by legal experts for driving a hard bargain in the negotiations leading to former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's guilty plea to felony charges. In February, Worthy showed her flair for bringing attention to a cause," the publication said.
During that time, Kym Worthy "enlisted actress Mariska Hargitay of NBC's 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' to come to Detroit on behalf of an effort to get funding and legislation necessary to clear a backlog of 11,000 untested rape kits."
Earlier, Viola Davis was coy about "How to Get Away with Murder" spoilers in an interview with Wall Street Journal even as she claimed that she only gets the scripts about one or two days before filming.
"But what you do know is what the core of your character is, but you have a semblance of their past and their memories, so that helps carry you through each episode. All those things I've been having to navigate on TV, where you get eight days to shoot an episode," "How to Get Away with Murder" cast Viola Davis said.
