One of the most anticipated Christmas specials on television is the one spent with the Crawleys in 1920s England. This year, the Downton Abbey Christmas special will also be this current season's finale episode. And while Americans will still have to wait until January to get started on their season 5 viewing, UK viewers will get to watch the Christmas special this December! ITV has released some very intriguing Downton Abbey season 5 spoilers to hype up the upcoming season finale/Christmas special.

According to ITV, this season's finale will be set in 1924. Instead of the Crawley residence, the Christmas special will take place in Northumberland county at Brancaster Castle. Lady Rose' father-in-law, Lord Sinderby (played by James Faulkner) rented out the place and has asked the entire Crawley family to celebrate the holidays with him. Of course, this Christmas would not be without its intrigue, as ITV reports the Downton Abbey season 5 spoiler that the Sinderby's butler played by Alun Armstrong, who is the holder of an important secret, and is threatening to reveal it because he "has an ax to grind." With whom, we don't know, but it will sure make for interesting dinner conversation for sure.

Meanwhile, the most shocking news from the downstairs side of Downton Abbey is that sweet lady's maid Anna might be headed for prison! It will be recalled that she has been implicated in the murder of Lord Gillingham's footman Mr. Green. But her husband Mr. Bates will not take this lying down, and will take dramatic steps to make sure his wife stays out of jail! On the other hand, Lady Violet's life takes a turn for the complicated when her secret love from the past Prince Kuragin, who has reappeared in her life, finds out that Princess Irina, whom everyone thought to be dead, resurfaces.
