Bollywood actress Veena Malik has reportedly been handed a 26-year jail term by a Pakistani anti-terrorism court for "malicious acts" of blasphemy, according to the U.K.'s The Independent.
Veena Malik reportedly appeared in a pretend wedding scene that was staged on a daytime show and based on the marriage of the Prophet Mohamed's daughter.
The wedding scene was reportedly aired several months ago, according to Fox News. The judge reportedly asked for immediate arrest of Malik, her husband Asad Bashir Khan Khattak and the owner of the network that aired the wedding scene Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman.
"26 years! Come on. 26 years is a lifetime. But I have faith in higher courts in Pakistan," Veena Malik stated, according to Gulf News.
She continued, "When the final verdict comes, it will do justice to me. Nothing bad is going to happen."
Aside from the prison sentence, the convicted parties have reportedly been ordered to pay a fine of 3 million rupees ($12,630) and surrender their passports. The court order will reportedly be enforced in the Pakistan-controlled city of Gilgit, which is also part of the India-claimed Kashmir regions.
"The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims of the country and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency," the court order reads.
Due to the fact that the city where the court order will be enforced is not considered a proper province by Pakistan, any verdicts delivered by its courts reportedly do not apply to the rest of the country, which means that Veena Malik may actually not have to serve her sentence.
Malik, who is currently in Dubai, reportedly stated that she will be returning to Pakistan in the next two weeks and challenge the court order.
The recent court case is reportedly only one of the list of controversies that follow the Bollywood actress. She reportedly sparked outrage in 2011 after posing for a series of risqué pictures for Indian FHM where she was posing with her arms and legs covering her private parts.
"I have faced highs and lows in my life. But I am sure I haven't done anything wrong," stated Malik.
