Will fans - Hellblazers as they are called - get a "Constantine" season 2 after this one ends?
According to Deadline, NBC halted production for the DC-based series. The Dark Arts dabbler will only be getting 13 episodes for its debut season.
This decision was reportedly due to the show's underwhelming response for its premiere, compared to its fellow Friday night-scheduled series, "Grimm," when it began.
Deadline reports that, although production has been cut short, the show still "remains in contention for a second-season renewal."
Ironically, episode 5 (which was aired hours after the decision was made official) recorded the highest ratings since "Constantine" started airing.
After the announcement, Zap2It reported that Hellblazers (which is based on the show's comicbook counterpart) promptly started a Twitter campaign to save the show. Using the hashtag #SaveConstantine, they made sure to let NBC know that they want to see John Constantine on screen again for a second season.
One fan posted on Twitter, "Seriously they have to order more episodes. They can't cancel it. Not until I see Zatanna and Dr. Fate."
Another posted, "Constantine is my current favorite show, it would be a HUGE loss, if it gets [cancelled]."
With the high ratings that episode 5 clocked in, cast member Harold Perrineau (who plays the angel Manny) and executive producer Daniel Cerone encouraged fans that "Constantine" season 2 could be renewed thanks to increasing ratings.
"The producers are [confident]. Constantine higher ratings than Hannibal and CLIMBING. Hannibal got 2nd season. So keep watching!" Cerone tweeted last Monday.
He continued to list ratings of different shows, "HH Ratings: Sleepy Hollow 4.6, Flash 3.7, Constantine 3.5, Arrow 2.6, Supernatural 2.5. [And] we have worst time slot. Keep faith!"
Meanwhile, Perrineau tweeted, "#Constantine has not been cancelled. And if you keep watching, and streaming, we will get a second season. #Hellblazers rock!!!"
Would you like to see John, Zedd and Chas again for "Constantine" season 2?
