Andy Murray and girlfriend Kim Sears remained mum over the engagement reports as the couple's nine-year relationship will reportedly culminate in a wedding ceremony.

According to People magazine, Andy Murray proposed to his girlfriend Kim Sears as confirmed by the tennis star's management company.

The couple has been dating since 2005 when they met at the US Open. She is the daughter of Nigel Sears, the former head of Law Tennis Association for women. Afterwards, Kim Sears has become a staple in his tennis matches as Andy Murray's loyal girlfriend can be seen cheering from the stands.

"Fans started hearing wedding bells earlier this year, when Murray joked about marriage plans during a Wimbledon Q&A session," noted the magazine. "The Scottish athlete went on Twitter shortly after the comment to shoot down rumors that a wedding was actually happening."

"3 things.. I don't smoke grass, I'm not getting married(yet) and I don't want to kill rafael Nadal.." Murray wrote on January 14.

Back in 2006, girlfriend Kim Sears, who was then 18 years old, attended Andy Murray's matches against Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt in San Jose, California.

Later, he told The Telegraph, "It's the first time Kim has come to a tournament. That made me quite relaxed. I'll have to take her to some more tournaments."

But Andy Murray didn't just stop at the tennis court as he also brought Kim Sears along formal events, said E!, just like in 2013 when she went with the athlete who was conferred with the title Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by no less than Prince William at the Buckingham Palace.

The BBC News reported that Andy Murray proposed to girlfriend Kim Sears on Wednesday, but the couple is still mum on the details. "She was once described by future mother-in-law Judy Murray as 'the best thing to happen to Andy,'" the news agency added.
