Protests have been ongoing in Ferguson, Missouri after it was announced that officer Darren Wilson, who is white, wouldn't be indicted for shooting Michael Brown, an unarmed Black teenager, in August, according to ABC News.
The protests have now reportedly taken a peaceful turn as Ferguson supporters of Michael Brown have targeted Black Friday sales at major retailers chanting, "no justice, no peace, no racist police" and "no more Black Friday."
The protests reportedly started inside a Walmart in another nearby suburb of St. Louis as about 75 demonstrators protested peacefully in front of Black Friday shoppers, according to the Sault Star. When officers reportedly warned protestors of arrest if they didn't move at least 50 feet from the store's entrance, demonstrators moved further into the parking lot.
"We want to really let the world know that it is no longer business as usual," stated Chenjerai Kumanyika, an assistant professor at Clemson University.
A dozen people reportedly gathered and chanted "Black lives matter" at a shopping center in the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood as the security was heighted in Ferguson on Friday morning. Protestors gathered outside of Ferguson as well as about 200 people reportedly demonstrated in a plaza near the Chicago's historic water tower, calling on people to boycott Black Friday.
The protests that occurred on Black Friday were much more peaceful than those that went on on Monday night in Ferguson as a dozen building were reportedly torched. Cars were reportedly destroyed as well.
Before heading to Walmart for the Friday protests, a group of 100 demonstrators reportedly ate Thanksgiving dinner, sang, prayed and discussed their new strategy in the basement of St. Louis' church.
"We are bruised but not broken. We are regrouping. We are not going to take this lying down," stated Cathy Daniels, a woman known to the activists as "Momma Cat" who prepared the food.
