For those who have wondered whether dogs can understand the human language, the answer is yes.
A new study has reportedly found that domesticated dogs can not only distinguish emotions from human speech but the content of words too, according to the media outlet Breaking News.
Dogs, like us, reportedly think about the speech and language that comes from humans as they try to understand what we're trying to say in order to react accordingly, according to Discovery News.
For the study, an experiment was done with 250 dogs and a clip of human speech was played to both the left and right side of them as dogs reportedly send the information heard by the right ear to the left-hand side of the brain and vice-versa.
The results of the study reportedly showed that when dogs were able to understand the basic meaning from the human language but the voice's characteristics, such as pitch and pitches, had been removed, the dogs had a tendency to listen with their right ear.
When the command was in an language that was unfamiliar to them, the dogs reportedly processed the speech with the opposite side, showing that canines use different parts of the brain to process the emotion and content of our words.
Study co-author Victoria Ratcliffe from the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex, reportedly stated that dogs pay attention not just to who we are and how we say things, "but also what we say," according to the Science Recorder.
Now owners can sigh a breath of relief knowing that their dog is doing the best it can to understand.
